Elizabeth Murrar
Elizabeth Murrar is the founder and managing attorney of Murrar Law, an immigration law firm based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, serving clients across Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. A former adjunct professor of immigration law at Marquette University Law School (2021–2023), Atty. Murrar serves as a National Mentor for the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) in U Visa and VAWA matters. She has been recognized as a Wisconsin Law Journal Up and Coming Lawyer (2016), a Super Lawyers Rising Star (2018, 2019, 2020), and a Wisconsin Law Journal Women in Law Honoree (2025). Her firm was named among Wisconsin’s Best Women-Led Law Firms by the Wisconsin Law Journal in 2024. Ms. Murrar practices in English and Spanish, with a particular focus on humanitarian visas (U, T, and VAWA), removal defense, and family-based immigration.
A Personal Connection to Immigration Law
For Elizabeth, immigration law is not an abstract practice area. It is shaped by her own family’s story.
Her father was raised by his immigrant grandmother, a proud American citizen who, by his memory, also lived with the quiet weight of discrimination. He grew up speaking English with her accent. The stories he told Elizabeth about his grandmother’s life, about belonging and not-quite-belonging in the same country, were her first lessons in what immigration law really touches.
Years later, those lessons became personal in a different way. Elizabeth has navigated the family-based immigration process firsthand, and she has walked her own family members through detention, custody, and immigration court proceedings. Her family’s case ended successfully, but the experience left her with something her credentials alone could never give her: a working understanding of what it feels like to be the family in the waiting room.
That experience shapes how Murrar Law operates today. The firm is built around the belief that excellent legal work and genuine client care are not separate skills. They are the same skill.
Practice Focus
Elizabeth’s practice centers on three areas where the stakes for clients and their families are highest:
The firm also handles DACA, affirmative asylum, citizenship and naturalization, and a full range of family and humanitarian matters.

About the Firm
Murrar Law, LLC traces its history through several Milwaukee-area immigration practices. Elizabeth founded the original Murrar Law Office, LLC in 2010. In 2018, the firm merged with retiring partners of Hochstatter, McCarthy, Rivas & Runde, S.C. — a respected Milwaukee firm established in 1983 — and with Attorney Cain Oulahan, becoming Murrar, Oulahan, Rivas & Hochstatter, LLC. Attorneys Tom Hochstatter and Joseph Rivas continued with the firm for several years before their well-earned retirements; Attorney Oulahan launched his own firm in 2022. The firm simplified its name to Murrar Law, LLC that same year.
The firm’s website was previously hosted at www.morhvisas.com; the current website is www.murrarlaw.com.
